    Dieter Stockmann entdeckte bereits im Alter von 6 Jahren sein Interesse an der Kunst, als er die Kunstbücher seines gefallenen Vaters erbte. Vor allem die Epochen der Gotik, Renaissance, des Barocks und der Romantik fesselten ihn und ließen ihn stundenlang in den Bilderwelten versinken. Schon damals empfand er die Kunst in all ihren Ausdrucksformen - sei es Literatur, Oper oder Theater - als Oasen der Ruhe und Flucht aus der Realität. Die Bilderwelt Dieter Stockmanns ist ebenso bizarr wie poetisch. Liebevolle Erfindungen voll heiterer Gelassenheit wechseln mit ironischen karikierten Phänomenen, Nahaufnahmen phantastischer Feste und grotesker Masken in kuriosen Drohgebärden setzen einen kraftvollen Kontrapunkt.                                                                                                        

    Wer sich in diese Bilderwelt verliert, riskiert, die gewohnte Wahrnehmung zu verlieren. Die detailreichen, fast labyrinthisch anmutenden Bilder ziehen den Blick des Betrachters in ihre Tiefen, aus denen es kaum ein Entrinnen gibt.                                                                                                                      
    Erst im Alter von sechzig Jahren entschied sich Stockmann, ausschließlich als freischaffender Künstler und Grafiker zu arbeiten. Seit über vierzig Jahren ist er Mitglied im Verband Bildende Künstler. Neben seiner künstlerischen Tätigkeit leitete er zwölf Jahre lang eine Jugendkunstschule und war als Dozent für kreatives therapeutisches Arbeiten beim Europäischen Bildungswerk tätig.
