    • Eggert Gustavs

    Eggert Gustavs – Sohn des Inselpastors und Altorientalisten Lic. Arnold Gustavs – wurde im Pfarrhaus auf Hiddensee geboren. Schon in jungen Jahren zog es ihn nach Hamburg auf die Landeskunstschule und an das Bauhaus in Berlin. Seit 1934 ging er dann seinen eigenen Weg – als Autodidakt und freischaffender Künstler. Lange Jahre lebte und arbeitete Gustavs sommers auf Hiddensee und winters in Neuruppin bei seiner Familie.
    In seinen eindrucksvollen Aquarellen und meisterhaften Holzschnitten beschränkt Gustavs sich auf das Wesentliche. Auch im Portrait und in der Karikatur verwirklichte er sein Bestreben, Typisches mit knappen künstlerischen Mitteln festzuhalten. Ihn faszinierten, wie er es formulierte, das »Gesicht der Landschaft« und die »Landschaft des Gesichtes«. Mit Humor und Lebensweisheit hat er viele Gedichte, Fabeln, Aphorismen und hintersinnige Wortspiele verfasst. Anlässlich des 100. Geburtstages des Künstlers wurde 2009 die Eggert Gustavs Gesellschaft e.V. gegründet und mit der Herausgabe des Buches »Eggert Gustavs – Leben und Werk eines Hiddenseer Künstlers« sein Lebenswerk gewürdigt. Die Museen in Neuruppin und auf Hiddensee zeigten umfangreiche Ausstellungen, ebenso 2010 der Königliche Kunstzirkel in Barcelona.
    Seit 2019 präsentiert das Eggert Gustavs Museum auf der Ostsee-Insel Hiddensee – vielfach als die »Insel der Maler und Dichter« bezeichnet – Originalwerke des Künstlers in verschiedensten Techniken (Aquarell, Linol- und Holzschnitt, Pinsel- und Rohrfederzeichnung, Öl, Pastell, Bleistift, Glasdruck), figürliche Holzschnitzereien, Druckplatten, Foto- und Filmaufnahmen sowie eine Ausstellung zur Geschichte des denkmalgeschützten Schmiedegebäudes.
